Web Hosting Companies – How to Choose the Right One For You

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

There are many web hosting companies available on the internet and it can be difficult to choose. You will first need to decide which features are important to you such as the number of e-mail accounts included and the type of site builder available with the program (especially if you have limited experience in building websites). Website builders often include templates of sites that you can customize. Some allow you to change colors and positions of text and graphics, others only allow you to add your text in specific locations on the preformatted site. This may or may not be a factor to you, but it is something you should decide before you sign on to a provider.

You also need to determine if domain registration is included in your monthly fee, and if so, how many domains are included. Some hosts give you one domain with several sub domains, some will give you 5 domains, while others provide none and you will need to register your domain separately. Whoever your domain is registered with, you will want to be sure they allow domain forwarding. This allows you to keep your domain name at that site and forward it to a site you build elsewhere. You should note that domain transfers (transferring your domain registration to another company) generally must wait until 90 days after the initial domain registration. Therefore, if you are not happy with your web hosting provider for some reason, you want to be able to forward that domain elsewhere. Otherwise you will have to use a different domain for your site if you switch providers.

Other factors to consider are the monthly fee and whether or not they have a start-up fee. You will need to compare the total costs overall, including any separate domain registration fee. While considering cost, you should be certain the company provides free image and file storage. You will also want to note whether or not ads will be shown on your site. Some of the less expensive hosting plans are less expensive because the host company will place ads for other sites onto your site.

A major consideration is the availability of live support. Some sites only have FAQ pages or a searchable index. A site with at least e-mail support and preferably also phone support would certainly be more desirable. It is inevitable that you will need support at some point and there is nothing more frustrating than having no one to contact!

You may also want to consider the availability of other features such as blog building tools, photo album building tools, and newsletter tools. Depending on your needs, these may or may not be important to you. A final factor to consider is the bandwidth and disk space. Bandwidth is the amount of data that is used to deliver your web page to a viewer. Disk space indicates how much room you have to store your files. Compare these figures between plans to determine what will best suit your needs. If your site is heavy on graphics, you will need more storage.

This provides a brief overview of what to look at when choosing a web hosting company. There are always going to be other factors to consider, especially as technology continues to change but with a bit of research and comparison you will find a host that fits your needs.

The Effects of Credit

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

To everyone that has no idea about credit and how it affects your credit history. I am a credit specialist at a mortgage company. I see many types of credit. Your credit score is built on an algorithm that the Fair Isaac Corporation has devised many years ago. If you were to call they wouldn’t even be able to answer your questions on the mathematical equation. It is kept tightly sealed. Anyway, when I do a credit analysis many people make the same mistakes. The first mistake is they never ever tell the creditors that their income is higher than first reported. Second, they never or very rarely ask for an increase in their credit limits on their cards. But never carry a high balance on the cards. Credit limits should be raised every 6-8 months. You never want to max out the cards. Also, never cancel a credit card less than 24 months. Lenders want to see a 24-month history. Cards with less than 24 months are considered new and will not allow your score to improve.

The myth about derogatory and collection accounts staying on for 7 years. I have been very successful in removing about 75% of those questionable credit trade lines. The important part is to challenge all that is in collections and is charged off. The credit reporting companies (Experian, Equifax, & Trans Union) have to send out to those companies on your credit files a verification card. Many companies are too busy to send it back. They have 30 days to respond. If there is no response it must be removed. Once removed it can no longer appear on your credit history. If it does reappear on your history then you can dispute that with the reporting company showing they removed it once before.

Items on your credit history that are 7 years or older must be removed. Companies can no longer collect for it. If they try then you have a good lawsuit. This is called a statute of limitations. All this can be found under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. When collection agencies purchase a debt that is about to turn 7 years old they will resell it to other collection agencies that will report it on your credit history. This is how the debt remains on the credit history. Credit reporting companies remove debt 7 years after it is reported. I dispute the debt from the first time it appears on the history and inform the reporting company it is the same old debt that was already removed. It is really illegal for the collection agencies to do that but it is done. Also, if you get calls from collectors don’t verify the debt. Tell them that person is not you and that they have that person’s old number or whatever but never verify it is you.

If you have recent debt (within the last 2 years), I would pay those off. This would get your credit scores higher. My clients have obtained higher scores of more than 20 points after I was finished with their credit analysis. If you have any judgments on your credit history this will remain on there for 8-10 years. I have had those removed too. It depends on the court. You never want to go to a Consumer Credit Counseling Service. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!! Don’t listen to the ads. It’s all lies. Lenders look at these companies like as if you filed a chapter 13 bankruptcy. Also, these companies, for the most part, never pay your bills on time. On your credit history it will reflect late and slow pay. If you need a method for paying your bills contact me. I will show you how.
Any questions?

The ABC of Teeth Whitening

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Why Do You Need Teeth Whitening?

Hello. That’s like asking Anna Nicole Smith why she had to lose weight. The answer’s obvious, isn’t it? It’s always better to have white teeth than yellow ones. And do thank the Almighty that you were born in this era and given the option to undergo teeth whitening treatment. I’m sure the rich people born generations before would pay thousands of dollars just to afford the same treatment but sadly for them, the world of medical science wasn’t able to come up with such a breakthrough just yet.

What Are The Types Of Teeth Whitening?

Glad you asked because that means you’ve accepted the need for teeth whitening. But on to your question: right now, there are just two options open to you. You could either go for an over the counter slash do it yourself slash at home teeth whitening treatment or go for the more expensive one and avail yourself of a professional teeth whitening treatment. Whichever you choose later on, it’s okay, the important thing is that you have chosen to undergo treatment.

But so as to help you choose, here are brief descriptions of each type of teeth whitening treatment.

Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment

People who are problem-free when it comes to money usually opt for a professional teeth whitening treatment because they just don’t want to deal with the hassle of doing the treatment themselves when they don’t need to. Naturally, there are distinct advantages when you go for a professional teeth whitening treatment. First, you can be sure that nothing could go wrong with the teeth whitening treatment because you’re literally in the capable hands of your dentist. The promised effect of a professional teeth whitening treatment is also more satisfactory compared to that of a do it yourself teeth whitening treatment and may be seen in a shorter period of time.

Do It Yourself Teeth Whitening Treatments

In contrast, it’s usually the presently cash strapped who prefer to purchase do it yourself teeth whitening kits, them and those with morbid fears of going to their dentist’s clinic. Obviously, there are risks when a person other than a dentist is in put in charge of a teeth whitening treatment even if it’s just as simple as using a whitening toothpaste. If you truly have to use an at-home teeth whitening kit, do try to schedule a consultation with your dentist. You won’t be paying for her professional services but rather just for a little advice. Ask your dentist if using the particular teeth whitening product is okay with your teeth and if possible, have your dentist take care of the mold for your teeth too.

Oracle Applications (Oracle E-Business Suite) Customizations: What is it?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Oracle Applications Customizations is a major issue in many companies that have implemented it. Oracle recommends every company that installs Oracle Applications to avoid any customization, but I have not seen any company that utilizes it and have not done any customization.

There are two types of Customizations: Extensions and Modifications.

• Extensions are components developed by customer, using the development features provided by Oracle within the E-business Suite. Oracle has provided guidelines and standards for creating extensions. It is extremely recommended that those are followed; it will certify that the new objects (extensions) are kept separate from standard E-business components.

• Modifications are changes done in the standard E-business suite objects or code. For example, a customer gets a database trigger from Oracle Applications database and makes some changes in the code. When customers follow this approach it is very difficult to identify the changes that have been done in the Oracle Applications, and this will affect future upgrades.

There are some common extensions on Oracle Applications Suite:

• Alert: Oracle Alerts facilitates the flow of information within a customer’s organization. Oracle workflow is used to develop new alerts.

• Database Objects: when the functionality is not available in Oracle Applications, it is possible to create a set of database objects. If the creation is necessary, it has to be done carefully, once it could impact the performance and the integrity of the system.

• File System and Custom Directory: always use the standard Oracle Flexible Architecture (OFA). This helps you to standardize installation and maintenance procedures. Create a new directory ($CUSTOM_TOP) and store all the customization in there.

• Forms: provides a way of populating custom tables. Oracle has provided a guideline for its implementation that must be followed. It has to be coded and tested properly; otherwise it can compromise the data integrity.

• Reports: Oracle provides the most usual reports and every company has to develop to their specific formats. Oracle Reports builder is the tool to be used and there are some risks in case of an upgrade, once that the schema of the objects used by Reports and Oracle eBusiness Suite can be changed in future releases.

Customization is a need at any company that has implemented Oracle Applications. Oracle is frequently advising everyone to avoid any kind customization. I agree in some part with Oracle, I would just change this advice to “Extend but not modify”.

Developing a Budget? Watch Out for Those Budget-Bursting Gremlins

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

If you’ve developed a household budget to get your spending back in line or to just reduce stress, good for you! Creating and sticking to a budget isn’t easy by all means. But it represents the best way by far to manage your finances so you can relax and worry about other things.

A budget can also be a very useful tool for ending financial arguments — assuming that you and your spouse agree how much to allocate for each of the categories in your budget.

The big categories are usually the easy ones. You know how much you pay for rent or your mortgage. Ditto other items such as your car payment(s), heating bill, phone bill and the like.

These are all fixed expenses. In other words, they are expenses that cannot be easily cut. They can be reduced but not without a major effort. For example, you could sell your home and buy one that requires a monthly mortgage payment.

However, many of the other items in your budget are discretionary expenses. In other words, they are expenses you can control and cut. This category includes items such as clothing, entertainment, insurance (yes, you can cut the cost of your car and health insurance), cable or satellite and groceries.

Some of these categories can also become budget busters or what I call budget gremlins if you are not really careful.

One of the biggest of these is entertainment – which should include the cost of eating out. You may find there’s only a little money left over for entertainment. Yet, it’s very easy to overspend by “rewarding” yourself after a hard week or month by taking your family out to eat at an expensive restaurant. Or by treating you and your spouse to a night on the town, complete with a babysitter for the kids. If you’re not careful, you can lose track of these spur-of-the-minute expenses. Come the end of the month, you might wake up and realize that these little “rewards” have cost you $100, $150 or even more over budget.

Another category that can be a budget gremlin is clothing. In the first place, it’s a difficult budget category as it is next to impossible to forecast with complete accuracy what your family will need in the way of clothing over the next 12 months. Even if you budget very accurately, there is always that great suit or dress that’s on sale, or that really neat athletic jacket your son is begging for. Again, you need to be very careful or you may find that what you spent on clothing last month was actually50% more than you had budgeted.

Here’s another potential budget gremlin. If you have a pet, make sure you budget for pet care and supplies. Just one trip to the vet with your furry friend can cost big dollars. And what about gifts? This is also a category where costs can get away from you unless you watch them closely.

Finally, for a budget to work, you and your spouse need to have some “miscellaneous” money or money that doesn’t have to be accounted for each month. For example, you might allocate $50 or $100 monthly for each of you. That way, you could each “splurge” on something without feeling guilty because you’re breaking the budget or taking money away from other, more important things.

Creating and sticking to a budget isn’t easy, but it can be a real life and marriage saver.

Bathroom Vanities – You Can

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

When I hear the term bathroom vanities, I imagine a sophisticated woman from a few generations ago. She wears a silk slip and sits at her bathroom vanity powdering her nose as she gets dolled up to go out on the town. I have hardly ever seen a bathroom vanity in this fashion, but the one I imagine actually has a chair to sit on while she gets ready.

Most modern women don’t have time to sit while they preen and primp for the day. The classy woman in my mind has more than enough time to sit at her vanity and look in the mirror while she prepares herself for the evening ahead. In the past, bathroom vanities were designed more like a desk than a counter. They had drawers that provided plenty of space for cosmetics, hair curlers and other hygiene necessities. A large mirror was usually connected to the desk with some sort of hinge so that the angle could be adjusted. This old fashioned design has now been replaced with plenty of counter space and a mirror mounted on the wall for most bathrooms. Buying an antique bathroom vanity to decorate your bathroom could give you the classic, sophisticated design you are looking for.

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The correct term for hair loss is alopecia. The very most common sort of baldness is male pattern baldness and affects frequently a third of guys and ladies. This type of hair loss is commonly permanent.

Wisconsin Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week – Ride Smart

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has declared that January 9th thru the 15th is the official “Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week.”

According to the State of Wisconsin records, there are over 230,000 snowmobiles registered in the state and they are enjoyed by over 30,000 families all over the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin has always been a great state for snowmobiling and fun, but safety is a must.

Every year, over 1200 volunteers help to educate and train over 200,000 students on snowmobile safety.

Snowmobile safety lessons include:

*) How to drive a snowmobile with safe driving practices

*) The importance of avoiding alcohol while on the trail

*) Respecting the private property of landowners and staying on the snowmobile trails

*) How to operate at safe speeds, especially at night

*) Snowmobile regulations, trail signs, registration process, hand signs

*) Protective gear, clothing, how to handle emergency situations, first aid on the trail

*) Parts of the snowmobile, environmental impacts, fuelling and on transporting a sled

For more information on snowmobile safety lessons, contact the Wisconsin DNR:
http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/es/enforcement/safety/snowed.html

Hey Kids: Alcohol is dangerous on the trails

Of the 25 snowmobile fatalities in the 2003 to 2004 Wisconsin snowmobile season, 12 of the fatalities were due to excess speed and 9 of the 12 consumed alcohol prior to their death. 72% of the total victims had some alcohol in their system.

Men, you’re also at higher risk. 24 of the 25 snowmobile fatalities were MEN. The average age of the victims was 35.2 years old. Lastly, most accidents occurred from 7pm to 3am on Saturday nights.

This snowmobile season, let’s enjoy the fun sport of snowmobiling and with common sense, we can live to ride another year! :-)

New Study Questions Causes of Acne In Women

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Hormones, oily skin- they are to blame for unsightly acne- right. Not according to a recent study published in the British Journal of Dermatology.

Researchers from Seoul National University examined 46 women without acne and 46 women with acne, all with an average age of 27. The study did not find a link between the oil level of the skin and the number of acne lesions in any given area of the face.

The examiners concluded that increased facial oil secretion in women with acne is not the “primary cause” of acne development, or even the cause of non-inflammatory acne like comedones and blackheads, or inflammatory acne lesions like papules and cysts.

While the study was conducted with Korean women, author of “Acne Messages” Naweko San-Joyz says the study has implications for women worldwide. “Acne can arise as a side-effect of multiple health and environmental factors.” San-Joyz recommends women take a holistic approach to their health when they way to pinpoint the cause of their acne.”

Steps women can take to treat an acne condition include:

Getting proper nutrition
Needless to say, the diet and acne debate remains hotly contested. But, San-Joyz argues that enough medicals studies have linked nutritional deficiencies with acne to justify boosting your nutrient intake to limit the number of acne lesions you have. Consume foods containing vitamins A, B, and C, the mineral zinc and the essential fatty acid omega-3 to help keep acne away.

Managing stress well
Another heated acne topic involves the acne-stress connection. Medical studies have demonstrated that stress can provoke acne lesions. That is because stress can impact a series of biological functions that include food digestion and immune function.

San-Joyz notes, “Most people don’t realize that the skin is not only a vital organ but an environmental barrier. The skin can prevent the formation of zits if it’s capable, but if the skin has to decide between preventing a zit from forming and destroying a viral pathogen, you’ll skin will choose to kill the virus first and handle you zits later.” Constantly managing stress simply limits the number of things that you body can do at one time.

Simple stress reduction tips involve taking deep breaths, taking a brisk walk, or reading for a few minutes to help stress dissipate.

Cleaning with less toxic materials
Dermatologists detest the mythical link between poor hygiene and acne.

Yet, San-Joyz warns that the link between environmental toxins and the growing rates of adult acne cannot be ignored. For example, dioxin is a prevalent environmental toxin that is created by certain household chemicals when exposed to sunlight and garbage incinerators. Dioxin is an oily powder that sticks to the skin and is spread by the wind and rain.

Dioxin exposure can cause the body to produce excess amounts of keratin, the protein found in hair, fingernails and skin. This buildup of keratin clogs the pores and causes pimples and blackheads.

San-Joyz recommends using hydrogen peroxide or vinegar as natural cleansing substitutes when ever possible to avoid creating dioxins.
