FCC to Support Mobile Broadband Industry, Commits Chairman

The FCC chairman has assured the mobile broadband industry of continuous support of FCC in attracting investment, innovation as well as assistance in removing hurdles in the launch of new technologies in addition to allotment of more spectrum.

The FCC, or Federal Communications Commission, is an independent body that handles all telecom-related matters in the US. Its chairman, Julius Genachowski, while addressing a meet at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show in San Diego in California expressed his belief in the future of the mobile broadband industry.

Genachowski pointed out that seeing the way the technology has moved from a luxury to a necessity for businesses, there can be no doubt that it will make major contribution to the economy as a whole, especially with its contributions to the larger businesses.

He also mentioned the net neutrality issue and tried to soften the heated controversy by attempting to persuade the audience that he understood the position of the service providers in the context, as they protested against the interference with their network management in an efficient way. The recent judgements and regulations of the government with respect to net neutrality were thought to be aimed at prohibiting the ISPs from having absolute discretion on the content to be hosted as well as content providers.

The chairman also tried explaining that he understood that there were differences between fixed line and mobile networks, especially in terms of management of network.
